The 150th Hospices de Beaune wine sale honours the colours of China

22.10.2010 - Vinexpo news selection

The 150th Hospices de Beaune wine sale on 21 November 2010 will honour the colours of China, featuring the Chinese actor Liu Ye, hailed to be the “Chinese Brad Pitt”, alongside the French thespian Fabrice Luchini.
“We wanted to attract the attention of our Chinese friends and acknowledge our world heritage. The Chinese really like French wine, but they don’t know Burgundy very well”, explained Alain Suguenot, the Chairman of the Hospices de Beaune’s Supervisory Board.
The auction organised by Christie's this year will feature between 620 and 650 casks of wine from the 2010 harvest from the estate of the Hospices founded in 1459.
There will not be as much wine as last year, but 45 Cuvées will be on offer, including the very latest Christine Friedberg Cuvée from the Santenay plot.
In 2009, there were record sales at the Hospices de Beaune with 799 228-litre casks sold for a total of more than €5 million. (AFP – Vinexpo / 6 October 2010)
