Thanks to exports,Cognac sets a new record in 2010

While Bordeaux was getting stuck in the credit crunch mud and suffering a dramatic slump in sales as early as late 2008 (and is still not out of the woods), the famous Charentes ‘eau-de-vie’ has been climbing up the slippery slope much faster. After sluggish activity in 2009, the following year saw the return of upwardly mobile sales.
The figures were published by the National inter-professional Bureau for cognac (BNIC). “In 2010, cognac reached its all-time turnover record with 1.86 billion euros - in other words, a 30% rise compared to the previous year. When we consider France’s trade balance, these 2010 exports are equivalent to the sale of 35 A320 Airbuses,” explains producer Bernard Guionnet, who is the Bureau’s president.
