China: French wines are the most popular with Chinese consumers

10.03.2011 - Vinexpo news selection

Between 2005 and 2009, French wine imports to China practically increased six-fold. In 2009, they accounted for 41.8 % of the total volume of wine imported into the country.
China today is therefore one of the top 10 importers of French wines, although back in 2004 it was not even in the top 20.
Australia is the second largest supplier of wines to the Chinese market, ahead of Chile. Between 2005 and 2009, these exporters increased their consignments by 416% and 284% respectively.
Although Argentine increased its exports to China the most by accomplishing a massive 799% increase, it is still only in 7th place amongst the country’s suppliers. (VINEXPO - The iwsr / 21 February 2011)
