In 2007, Germany lost its place as leading importer of still light wines by volume to U.K.
Between 2005 and 2009, volumes of imported wines consumed dropped by 7.58% in Germany and are expected to fall by another 1.39% between 2010 and 2014.
Only South African wines are enjoying increasing popularity with German drinkers, up 93.63% between 2005 and 2009.
The three leading suppliers of the German market (Italy, Spain and France) all lost ground between 2005 and 2009.
The greatest downturns were suffered by Chilean and American wines, down 30.86% and 31.27% respectively. (VINEXPO - The iwsr / 7 March 2011)
