With per capita wine consumption of 4.5 litres per year in 2009, Hong Kong is the most mature wine market in Asia ahead of Japan with 2.4 litres per of-age adult and Singapore with 2.1.
2.91 million 9-litre cases of wine equivalent to nearly 35 million bottles were drunk in 2009 in Hong Kong, a 106% increase compared to 2005.
The growth of tourism and wine consumption at home as well of course as the abolition of import duty on wine at the beginning of 2008, have all contributed to the volumes consumed being doubled within this 5-year period.
The VINEXPO study forecasts a further increase of 57% in wine consumption between 2010 and 2014, resulting at the end of the period in average per capita consumption of 6.5 litres per year.
