The 150th Hospices de Beaune wine sale broke all records with its charity lot. The traditional “President’s barrel”, Nicolas Rolin’s cuvée, a Beaune premier cru, went under the hammer for €400,000 in aid of Professor David Khayat’s cancer research association and the Red Cross. In 2008, the charity lot went for €50,000, a far cry from the preceding record bid of €200,000 in 2006. (AFP / 22 November 2010)
