Italian wine exports reach record levels

01.04.2011 - Vinexpo news selection

Italian wine exports reached 212.3 million 9-litre cases in 2009, up 31.5% compared to 2005, making Italian winegrowers the leading exporters in the world ahead of Spain and France.
Over this period, exports to Germany, the largest market for Italian wines, to U.K., the second largest and to the U.S., the third, grew substantially. There was also very strong growth in exports to Canada and the Netherlands as well as Asia, especially China.
It should however be noted that while Italian wines are exported in the highest volumes around the world, French wine exports worldwide have the highest value: €7.69 billion in 2009 compared to €4.41 billion worth of Italian wines. (VINEXPO - The iwsr / 15 March 2011)
