The Italians drank 308 million 9-litre cases of wine in 2010, down 0.3% compared to 2009 and almost 1% lower than the record year of 2007, when the VINEXPO recorded total consumption of 311.378 million cases.
In 2010, Italy was however the leading wine consuming nation worldwide.
Between 2010 and 2014, the VINEXPO study forecasts stabilisation in Italian wine consumption as it falls slightly by 0.6%, and that by 2012 Italy will lose its world leadership position to the U.S. (VINEXPO - The iwsr / 15 March 2011)
