Between 2006 and 2010, wine consumption increased by 11.46% in Japan, reaching 29.031 million cases by the end of the period.
In 2011, the Japanese consumed 6.02% less wine.
The VINEXPO study predicts that wine consumption will pick up again in Japan between 2011 and 2015 by 2.83% by the end of the period. At that date, Japanese consumers will drink an average of 2.4 litres per capita per year. Japan is the second largest wine market in Asia after Hong Kong, which in terms of maturity has attained 6.7 litres per capita per year. (Vinexpo – 9 January 2012)
