Despite the difficulties encountered by Japan, Burgundy wine exports to the country grew by 6% in volume and 14% in value from January to July 2011. The solidarity that Burgundians demonstrated after the massive earthquake that hit the Fukushima area has contributed to maintaining the link between Burgundy and this key market. “These figures are especially positive, because they are higher than those achieved in the same period in 2007, a record sales year for Burgundy just before the world crisis hit”, commented the Burgundy Wine Board (BIVB).
