Burgundy wine house organises charity sale in aid of Japanese quake victims

26.04.2011 - Vinexpo news selection

In March, Maison Albert Bichot launched a charity sale on the web of 288 magnums in aid of the Japanese Red Cross.
For one month, the 288 magnums of Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Les Murgers purchased recently by Albert Bichot at the 50th Nuits-Saint-Georges Hospices auction, will be on sale on the website www.hospices-beaune.com/japon.
The proceeds of the sale that it is hoped will amount to €30,000 will then be donated to the Japanese Red Cross in aid of the victims of the earthquake and ensuing tsunami, which took place on 11 March in north-east Japan.
According to the Burgundy Wine Board (BIVB), 7.4 million bottles of Burgundy wines were sold to Japan in 2009, making the country the third largest market in value for this wine producing region, behind the U.S. and UK.
Albert Bichot will be present at Vinexpo in 2011. (AFP - 25 March 2011)
