Wine consumption in South Korea was flat between 2006 and 2010, increasing by only 0.37% in the 5 years. In 2011, after a free trade agreement was signed between South Korea and the European Union, wine consumption in the Asian nation grew by 8.4% compared to 2010.
The VINEXPO world market survey forecasts that this return to growth will be sustained between 2011 and 2015 to reach 26.44% by the end of the 5-year period.
South Korea today is the third largest Asian wine market after China and Japan. Each Korean adult drinks an average of 2.7 litres of wine annually. (Vinexpo – 7 February 2012)
