Pennsylvania beats Michigan in spirits sales

06.06.2011 - Vinexpo news selection

In 2010, Pennsylvania became the “control state” with the highest spirits sales by volume (6.8 million cases, up 6%) and in terms of value (US$1.03 million, up 2%). A control state in the U.S. is one where the sale of alcoholic beverages is totally under the control of the state monopoly. Michigan, whose volumes remained stable (6.7 million cases, up 1.4%), was marginally overtaken. Then came Ohio with 4.6 million cases, North Carolina with 4.57 million and Washington State with 4.1 million cases. These top 5 states together account for 56.9% of the total market of the 19 U.S. control states. (V&S News - 20 May 2011)
