Japanese consumers appear to be precursors for the rest of Asia.
With regard to sparkling wines: Sparkling wines only represent 2% of all wine consumed in Asia, while they account for 7.65% of total wine consumption worldwide. However, 8.8% of the wines consumed in 2010 by Japanese drinkers were sparkling.
Furthermore, Japanese sparkling wine consumption rose by 17.52% between 2006 and 2010, and is expected to grow by a further 6.39% between 2011 and 2015.
With regard to rosé wines. Consumption of rosé wines in Asia is anecdotal, while it is growing worldwide. In Japan, however, rosé wine consumption increased by 85% between 2006 and 2010 and will continue to grow by another 55.6% between 2011 and 2015, when it will reach 140,000 9-litre cases.
