United-Kingdom: Rising interest in rosé and sparkling wines

09.02.2011 - Vinexpo news selection

Consumption of rosé wines almost doubled in the UK between 2005 and 2009 with growth of 93.07% at the expense of red wine consumption, which dropped by 7.72% over the same period.
However, white wine remains Britons’ favourite colour and accounted for 44% of total wine consumption in 2010.
The UK is now the 4th largest rosé wine consumer market after France, the US and Germany. Rosé wine consumption in the UK is expected to rise by a further 11.53% between 2010 and 2014.
Having consumed 16.13% more sparkling wine in 2009 than in 2005, the British are also growing fond of fizz. This trend should continue and show 12.% growth between 2010 and 2014. (VINEXPO / The iwsr – 9 February 2011)
