10.06.2011 - Vinexpo news selection

In a recent press release, the Bordeaux wine group Castel has confirmed its takeover of Patriarche from Burgundy, becoming “a major player in Burgundy wines and sparkling wines”.
Founded in 1780, Patriarche sells more than 60 million bottles per year generating sales of around €110 million. Two thirds of the company’s business comes from sparkling wines and a third from still wines. It exports to more than 85 countries.
Castel points out that the “two companies fit well together and this includes their sales channels”. Patriarche will however remain independent organisationally and with regard to its teams.
Founded in 1949 in Bordeaux, Castel has gradually become the leading wine producer in France and Europe. It has operations in more than 130 countries, including China and Russia. Castel will be present at Vinexpo - Hall 1 BD 270 (AFP - 6 May 2011)
