Canada: Wine consumption is expanding fast

25.02.2011 - Vinexpo news selection

Canadian wine consumption increased by 22.5% between 2005 and 2009, reaching 40.4 million 9-litre cases. It is expected to grow by a further 19% between 2010 and 2014 according to the forecasts in the Vinexpo study.
This increase is mainly driven by still light wines, which account for 97% of total wine consumption.
Between 2010 and 2014, Canadian consumption of still light wines should grow by 7.9 million 9-litre cases, which puts the country in third position after China and the U.S. for its growth in volumes consumed over 10 years.
Since 90% of all wine drunk in Canada is consumed in just 4 provinces (Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta) the market dynamics here are really stunning. (VINEXPO-The iwsr / 4 February 2011)
