Major media success

The Press Department beat all previous records with 1,346 journalists from 53 countries covering the exhibition, walking up and down the aisles, interviewing the exhibitors and major purchasers, revealing new products and highlighting new trends. The overall picture was very positive: the Press almost unanimously cited Vinexpo as “the greatest world exhibition” in terms of business, the unveiling of new products, exhibitor satisfaction and sound organisation. We counted more than 3,000 articles that appeared not only in trade journals but also in the general press and on TV and radio.

Here is what they wrote…

Bloomberg, Elin McCoy (USA) « Think of Vinexpo as the Cannes Film Festival of wine: 2,400 sellers from 45 countries and 50,000 buyers from 147 countries, all gathered in one spot in Bordeaux to schmooze, show off and make deals […] Vinexpo is big business, which is why market leaders like Concho y Toro, Gallo and Grupo Dos Sete are here. »

Food & Wine (China) « Since its creation in 1981 Vinexpo has shown 26 years of consistent growth to become the world’s leading global wine and spirits exhibition for producers, retailers and business decision-makers world-wide. »

Wineland Magazine (South Africa) « Vinexpo is the best international Wine show. »

Wine Spectator (USA) « The general sentiment was that Vinexpo 2007 was a success, considering the turnout from buyers in traditional and new markets alike. »

Decanter (UK) « Vinexpo is still the place to see everyone in one week. »

Fuji Sankei Business (Japan) « The largest wine exhibition in the world is in France. »

The “Découvertes” Jury

Fifteen specialist tasting journalists from twelve countries joined four internationally renowned sommeliers to form the 2007 “Découvertes” Jury. Their objective was to find and highlight innovative products on show at Vinexpo, which caught each member’s attention. Around thirty white, red and rosé wines from Portugal, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, France and Argentina were short-listed along with around ten spirits. After a blind tasting, 4 prize winners were identified: Red – DeLoach 2005, Boisset (US); Rosé – Santa Digna 2007, Miguel Torres (Chile); White – Nelin 2005, Clos Mogador (Spain); Spirits – 12-year-old Calvados Pays d’Auge, Lecompte (France).
